Project #2:
Francisco Vielma's house

Reconstruction of Francisco's house: Francisco Vielma, a 90-year old retired farmer, lost his house to Jimena, which took it to the foundation. Without the means to reconstruct, he had been sleeping outside under a tree since September 2. Considering the situation urgent, the Malones dug into their personal savings to get things moving till funding comes in, got building material in Constitución, and the neighbors went to work.

In spite of the good intentions of the volunteers, a number of them had no structured construction experience, so there were on the job lessons in the basics of reading a tape measure and how to properly mark and lay out the studs, building the walls flat and raising them up to then be anchored to the concrete foundation.

Construction started Saturday morning October 10th. He slept under his new roof Monday October 12th, and the structure was finished October 13th.

Materials cost (see recipts), $20,962 pesos, about $1570 dollars. Three days, helping hands, and a weatherproof home.
